info What to Expect

The Colorado Springs to Raleigh route covers approximately 1,705 miles, and once we are past Albuquerque it is essentially I-40 East all the way into central North Carolina. We run I-25 South to Albuquerque, I-40 East across the southern Plains, Memphis, Nashville, and through the Pigeon River Gorge between Knoxville and Asheville before continuing east through Winston-Salem and Greensboro into the Triangle.

The Pigeon River Gorge segment of I-40 is the route's biggest variable. Rockslides have closed it for days at a time (most recently for an extended stretch in 2024) and we monitor TDOT and NCDOT alerts before any Raleigh dispatch. Our southern reroute via I-26 through Asheville and Spartanburg adds about three hours but keeps the schedule predictable when the gorge is closed.

Standard delivery is a 5-6 day window. We commit to a delivery date once the truck is east of Knoxville and the I-40 corridor is confirmed open. Most Raleigh and Durham addresses have straightforward truck access; the older Five Points, Boylan Heights, and historic Hayes Barton neighborhoods involve narrower streets and mature canopy that we evaluate at quote time.

Climate Note

Raleigh has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and humid (low 90s, high dew points June-September). Winters are mild but 1-2 ice events per year can disrupt I-40 and I-440 for 24-48 hours. Hurricane impact is occasional but generally weakened by the time storms reach the Piedmont. Pollen season (late March-April) is intense. Best moving months are September-November and April-May.

About Raleigh, NC

Everything you need to know about your destination

The Raleigh-Durham metro—anchored by Research Triangle Park (RTP), the largest research park in the United States—is one of the country's strongest in-bound corporate-relocation markets. The combined Raleigh-Cary-Durham-Chapel Hill metro is approaching 2.5 million residents and has been growing at a top-five rate among major U.S. metros for the past decade. Apple's $1B campus in RTP, Google's expanding presence, Cisco's east-coast hub, IBM, GSK, Cisco, Fidelity, Pfizer, and dozens of biotech firms drive the inbound talent flow.

Operationally, RTP corporate relocations are the dominant pattern for our Front Range clients moving here. That means: tight start dates set by the hiring company, relocation management companies (RMCs) like SIRVA, Cartus, or Aires often coordinating the move on the employee's behalf, GBL or RMC-billing paperwork rather than direct customer billing, temporary corporate housing on arrival before a permanent address is identified, and frequent split deliveries (some to short-term housing, the rest to long-term storage). We hold the documentation patterns RMCs require and bill the relocation company directly when that's the structure.

Popular Areas: North Raleigh and Brier Creek for established family neighborhoods near RTP. Cary and Apex for top-rated Wake County schools and master-planned communities. Morrisville for direct RTP proximity. Wake Forest and Holly Springs for newer affordable growth. Durham (American Tobacco district, Trinity Park, Forest Hills) for walkable urban living near Duke University. Chapel Hill and Carrboro for the UNC corridor. Holly Springs and Fuquay-Varina for the southern growth corridor. Wendell and Knightdale on the eastern side for affordability.

The economy is fundamentally tech, biotech, and higher education—Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State, and Wake Forest collectively employ a massive research workforce, and the Triangle's biotech cluster is the third-largest in the country after Boston and the Bay Area. North Carolina's state income tax is a flat 4.5% (as of 2026), competitive with Colorado. Cost of living has risen sharply but remains below most major coastal metros. Best moving months are September through November and April through May; pollen season (late March-April) is intense and can affect anyone with allergies during outdoor loading.
